Garage Door Extension Springs

Garage Door Extension Springs

Garage Door Springs - Liftmaster door spring
Garage Door Extension Springs are mounted on each side of the upper garage door track. Through the use of pulleys they come under tension when garage door is closed helping to lift an otherwise heavy garage door. Our garage door springs are priced singlely, however, it is important to replace garage door springs as a set. When one of the garage door springs is broken the demise of the other is not far behind. Warning! Garage Door Extension Springs can cause serious injury and property damage if they break under tension and are not secured with safty cables, use caution when replacing. We stock extension springs for 7' high garage doors and extension springs for 8' high garage doors. Ordering the correct size of extension springs is simple:
Step 1: Measure height of the garage door ( standard heights are 6'6", 7', or 8').
Step 2: For single garage door openings:  Important! Obtain total weight of garage door by raising the door fully then securing it in the up position by clamping a vice grip under both bottom rollers on each side. Simply remove extension springs from the garage door then lower the, now heavy, garage door onto a bathroom scale located on the ground, mid center noting the weight. For double garage door openings: (16' wide or larger) use the same procedure for single garage door opening but in this case use two (2) bathroom scales, placing them apart and 6 inches inside each side of the opening. Get assistance to lower the heavy garage door onto both scales. Add the two weights together and take note of the total weight and determine the correct extension springs to order by going into the 7' or 8' height category. Scroll down to the total weight you noted and purchase. Thats it! (Note: remember to replace both springs)
Note: Each end of the extension springs may have a color which may also be helpful in determining size.
Last Resort Alternative method: Determine the brand name of the garage door, determine if it is insulated and the thickness of the garage door, note any existing windows; Then contact us, at 618 567 6335, we can come within 10 pounds of an accurate weight of your garage door.
